The garlicky one.

Same foundation as our Idli Podi — roasted urad dal, bengal gram, roasted chana dal, sesame, red chillies — with one significant addition: garlic. Real garlic, hand-roasted with the rest of the ingredients, not garlic powder added later. The difference is immediate. The podi has a depth and warmth that the regular version doesn’t, and the aroma when you open the pouch tells you exactly what you’re getting.

The label says it clearly: have your dosa or idli with delicious lip-smacking idli podi. That is the honest description. The garlic is not subtle. It’s the point.

Sesame oil is the pairing — not ghee, not any other oil. The sesame and garlic together is the combination that makes South Indian breakfast what it is. Dip your idli or dosa in, eat it while it’s hot. Hand-roasted in 5–7 kg small batches in T.Nagar, Chennai, and shipped within 10 days of roasting.

Shelf life: 6 months from manufacture date.

Storage Instructions: Store in an airtight container. Use only a dry spoon. Refrigerate for maximum freshness.

Method 1 — The classic (idli):

  1. Spoon Garlic Idli Podi onto a small plate or directly beside your idli.
  2. Pour a generous drizzle of sesame oil or any oil or ghee over the podi and let it pool slightly.
  3. Dip your idli in and eat while hot.

Sesame oil is not optional — it is what the garlic needs to bloom. Do not substitute with ghee.

Method 2 — With dosa:

  1. Spoon Garlic Idli Podi into a small clay bowl beside your dosa.
  2. Add a generous pour of sesame oil or any oil or ghee of your choice.
  3. Tear the dosa and dip directly — or spread the podi and oil across the dosa surface before eating.

Also works with:

Chapati · Upma · Curd Rice

1. How is this different from your regular Idli Podi?

One ingredient: garlic. Hand-roasted with the dals and sesame rather than added later. The garlic changes the aroma, adds depth to the flavour, and gives the podi a warmth the regular version doesn’t have. If you love garlic in your food, this is the version to buy. If you prefer the cleaner, nuttier version, go with the regular Idli Podi.

2. Should I use sesame oil or ghee?

Sesame oil. Always. The garlic and sesame are built for each other — it’s the combination that defines South Indian podi eating. Ghee is a substitute if you don’t have sesame oil, but the result is noticeably different. Start with sesame oil the first time. You may use any other oil too if you do not have or use sesame oil

3. Is the garlic flavour strong?

Yes — and intentionally so. The label calls it lip-smacking. The garlic is real, roasted whole with the other ingredients, not added as garlic powder. If you want a milder garlic note, use less podi. If you want the full experience, don’t hold back.

4. What’s in it — and what’s NOT?

Urad Dal, Bengal Gram, Roasted Chana Dal, Garlic, Sesame Seed, Red Chillies, Asafoetida, Oil & Salt. No preservatives, no anti-caking agents, no MSG, no palm oil, no artificial colours, no flavour enhancers. Nothing we wouldn’t put in our own food.

5. How spicy is it?

Mild. The red chillies give it a gentle warmth but this is not a spicy podi. The garlic is the dominant note, not heat. Suitable for everyday eating including low spice tolerance.

6. What’s the shelf life?

6 months from manufacture date. The manufacture date is printed on the pouch.

7. How do I store it after opening?

Transfer to an airtight glass or steel container. Use only a dry spoon. Refrigerate for maximum freshness.

8. Is this vegetarian?

Yes. 100% vegetarian.

9. How long does delivery take?

Prepaid orders typically arrive within 48 hours in metros, 3–4 days for tier-2 cities. COD orders take 4–7 business days. We ship within 24 hours of order placement, six days a week.

10. Is COD available?

Yes, across India. There’s a ₹30 COD fee at checkout — skip it by paying via UPI or card. Prepaid usually arrives faster.

11. What if I don’t like it?

Email us at sales@friszon.com or WhatsApp 9500095444 within 7 days of delivery. We’ll refund you — including on opened pouches.
